Antibiotic Uses
Amoxicillin is an antibiotic in the class of drugs called penicillin. It fights bacteria in the body and is used to treat many different types of infections, such as tonsillitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and skin infections. Amoxicillin is effective against many different bacteria including H. influenzae, N. gonorrhoea, E. coli, Pneumococci, Streptococci, and certain strains of Staphylococci.
How is Amoxicillin Taken?
Take Amoxicillin exactly as directed. The capsules should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of water. Continue to take Amoxicillin even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Amoxicillin without talking to your doctor.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Amoxicillin, tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to another penicillin or to a cephalosporin. Do not take Amoxicillin without first talking to your doctor if you have ever had kidney, stomach or intestinal disease.
Side Effects
Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following serious side effects: an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of the throat; hives; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; rash; or fainting); seizures; or unusual bleeding or bruising.
Other, less serious side effects may occur, if so continue to take Amoxicillin and talk to your doctor.
Store
Keep away from moisture, heat and direct light and do not keep outdated medicine or medicine any longer than needed.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention if you have any of these symptoms of an Amoxicillin overdose: muscle spasms or weakness, pain or twitching, pain in the fingers or toes, loss of feeling in the fingers or toes, seizures, confusion, coma, or agitation.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe or bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
